INTRODUCTION OF ALFUSIN 20MG
ALFUSIN 20MGÂ tablets contains Alfuzosin which belongs to the group of medicines called Alpha-1-blockers. It is used to provide relief from moderate to severe symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia in affected individuals.
Benign prostatic hyperplasia is a non-cancerous condition that increases the size of the prostate, and it is generally characterized by symptoms such as increased urinary frequency, unusual urine color/smell, urinary urgency, weak/interrupted urine stream, and pain after urination/ejaculation.
ALFUSIN 20MGTABLET is not recommended for use in patients who are allergic to alfuzosin, or equivalent substances (such as terazosin, and doxazosin). It is also not recommended for use in patients with orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure while standing up from a sitting, or lying position), liver problems, and should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems (such as mild, moderate, and severe kidney problems).
ALFUSIN 20MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant, or breastfeeding women as it is used only in men. It is also not recommended for use in children, and adolescents (aged below 18 years), and it should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65, and above).
The most common side effects of taking ALFUSIN 20MG TABLET are dizziness, headache, nausea, stomach pain, weakness, and tiredness. Consult You’re doctor if any of the side effects worsens.

HOW ALFUSIN 20MG WORKS?
ALFUSIN 20MG TABLET works by binding, and inhibiting a receptor (alpha 1-adrenergic receptor) in the lower urinary tract, which results in the relaxation of muscles around the bladder, thus facilitating urine to flow more easily, and thereby providing relief from symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take ALFUSIN 20MG TABLET as advised by You’re physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush, or chew the medicine. You’re doctor will decide the correct dose, and duration for you depending upon You’re age, body weight, and disease condition.

RARE SIDE EFFECTS
Stop taking ALFUSIN 20MG TABLET, and contact You’re doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- Chest pain (angina)
- Signs of allergic reactions (such as red, and lumpy skin rash, swelling of the eyelids, face, lips, mouth, and tongue, difficulty in breathing, or swallowing)
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Dizziness:
Lie down until dizziness is gone, then get up slowly. Move slowly, and carefully, do not hurry. Get adequate rest. Drink plenty of water, and other fluids. Avoid coffee, cigarettes, alcohol, and drugs. Consult You’re doctor if the symptom gets worse.
Headache:
Drink ample amount of water, and avoid skipping meals. Get adequate rest. Try to be relaxed, and stress free. Apply pain relieving balm on You’re forehead if necessary. Consult You’re doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Nausea:
Stick to simple meals while taking this medicine. Avoid eating oily rich, fried, or spicy foods. Do not lie down, or sleep immediately after eating. Consult You’re doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Diarrhoea:
Drink a lot of fluids, such as water to keep yourself hydrated. Avoid eating high-fat, or spicy foods. Try to avoid taking any medicine on You’re own to treat diarrhea, and consult You’re doctor if the symptom gets worse.
Stomach pain:
Try to rest, and relax. Eat, and drink slowly, or try to have smaller meals more frequently. Keep a heat pad on You’re stomach. If the symptom does not improve, consult You’re doctor.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
ALFUSIN 20MG TABLET is not for use in women as it is only recommended for use in men to treat symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia.
BREASTFEEDING
ALFUSIN 20MG TABLET is not for use in women as it is only recommended for use in men to treat symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive, or operate any machines if you feel dizzy, or weak after taking ALFUSIN 20MG TABLET.
ALCOHOL
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking ALFUSIN 20MG TABLET as it may cause orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure that happens when standing up from sitting, or lying position).
KIDNEY
ALFUSIN 20MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems such as mild, moderate, and severe kidney problems. Consult You’re doctor before taking ALFUSIN 20MG TABLET.
LIVER
ALFUSIN 20MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with liver problems. Consult You’re doctor before taking ALFUSIN 20MG TABLET.
ALLERGY
Do not take ALFUSIN 20MG TABLET if you are allergic to Alfuzosin, or other equivalent substances (such as terazosin, doxazosin), or any other ingredients of this medicine.
HEART DISEASE
ALFUSIN 20MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with heart disease, and QT prolongation (abnormal heart’s electrical activity). Consult You’re doctor before taking ALFUSIN 20MG TABLET.
OTHERS
Not recommended for use if you:
- Had, or have a history of low blood pressure while standing up from a sitting/lying position (orthostatic hypotension) associated with signs such as dizziness, light-headedness, or feeling faint
Before taking inform You’re doctor if you:
- Have chest pain
- Experience painful erections of penis (unrelated to sexual activity)
- Are scheduled for an eye surgery because of cataract (cloudy area in the lens of the eye)
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before taking ALFUSIN 20MG TABLET inform You’re doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- Other alpha-blockers (medicines used to treat hypertension, and benign prostatic hyperplasia) Ex. doxazosin, indoramin, prazosin, terazosin, tamsulosin, phenoxybenzamine
- Antihypertensives (medicines used to treat high blood pressure) Ex. captopril, ramipril
- Nitrates such as nitroglycerin (used to treat chest pain (angina))
- Ketoconazole, itraconazole (used to treat fungal infections)
- Ritonavir medicine (used to treat HIV infection)
- Medicines used to treat bacterial infections (Ex. clarithromycin, telithromycin)
- Medicines used to treat depression (Ex. nefazodone)
- General anesthetics such as propofol (medicines used to provide unconsciousness during surgery)
Overdosage:
If you, or anyone else accidentally take too much of ALFUSIN 20MG TABLET, consult You’re doctor immediately, or visit the nearby hospital.
