BEFORE YOU TAKE THE DRUG:

Do not take the drug if you:
Are allergic to hydroxyzine HCL or any other ingredient of the drug.
Are pregnant or planning to be pregnant.

HOW MUCH TO TAKE THE DRUG

For symptomatic relief of tension and anxiety that is associated with psychoneurosis the dose for adults is 50?100 mg q.i.d. Those who are over the age of six for them 50?100 mg daily in divided doses. Whereas under the age of six, 50 mg daily in divided doses.

If the medicine is used in the management of pruritus that happens because of allergic conditions such as atopic, chronic urticaria, contact dermatoses, etc for adults, the dose is 25 mg t.i.d. or q.i.d, children above age six are usually given the dose 50?100 mg daily in divided doses and those below the age of six 50 mg daily in divided doses .

When it is used as a sedative in premedication following general anaesthesia the dose is usually 0.6 mg/kg in children and 50?100 mg in adults.

It is however to be noted that the dose will vary from person to person and depends on age, weight, severity of condition and several other reasons. It is best to consult a doctor before taking the dose.

HOW TO TAKE THE DRUG

Atarax 10mg is to be taken with a glass of water. Take the medicine as prescribed by the doctor. The dose should not be altered and should be taken exactly for the time period as prescribed by the doctor.

FOR HOW LONG TO TAKE IT

Atarax 10mg should be taken for the prescribed period that is fixed after consultation with the doctor. Even if you start feeling better after sometime you should complete the dose.

OVERDOSE:

In case of overdose you may suffer from the symptoms such as nausea, feeling like you might pass out, extreme drowsiness and vomiting. If the discomfort continues you must get medical help immediately.

MISS DOSE:

Atarax 10mg is advisable to take a missed dose as soon as you remember. If the next dose is almost near then skipped the missed dose. Never take extra medicine to compensate for the missed dose.

SERIOUS

• Restless muscle movements in your tongue, eyes, jaw or neck

• Seizure

COMMON DRUG INTERACTIONS:

Before taking Atarax 10mg it is best to tell your doctor about the medicines that you are taking currently. This is specially required when you are using medicines that make you feel sleepy such as allergy or cold medicines, narcotic pain medicine, sedatives, muscle relaxers, sleeping pills, anxiety or depression, medicine for seizures and so on so that drug interaction does not happen. If taking the above medicines as well as Hydroxyzine HCl then you may feel all the more sleepy.

THINGS TO REMEMBER:

Taking Atarax 10mg may impair your reactions or thinking. Hence, one needs to be careful while driving or doing activities that requires high alertness.
One must avoid alcohol as it may lead to certain side effects
The medicine is not to be shared with anyone even if the person has the same symptom. It must be taken only after consultation with the doctor.
The medicine needs to be stored at room temperature away from heat and moisture.
The medicine is to be used only for the purpose mentioned and not for any other purpose.
