INTRODUCTION
BENZONEXT GEL contains Benzoyl peroxide which belongs to the group of medicines called Anti-bacterial and Anti-inflammatory agents. It is used in the treatment and prevention of acne (pimples) in the face, chest and back. It is also used to unplug the blocked pores (blackheads and whiteheads) and absorb excess oil from the skin.
Before using BENZONEXT GEL, inform your doctor if you are having any allergy to foods, preservatives or dyes or if you are already under any medication for acne.
It is not recommended to use hard cleansers, scrubs, medicated soap or cosmetic products containing alcohol while using this medicine.
BENZONEXT GEL is generally not recommended for use in pregnant women unless clearly needed. Consult your doctor before using the medicine.
Avoid repeated exposure to sunlight or other sources of UV light (such as sun bed). In case of accidental contact, rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat dry.
Most common side effects of BENZONEXT GEL are skin redness and irriation, burning, stinging sensation in the skin. Consult your doctor if any of above symptoms worsens.

HOW BENZONEXT GEL WORKS
BENZONEXT GEL works against the acne-causing bacteria. This medicine after applying on the affected skin gets absorbed and is converted to benzoic acid. This benzoic acid gets metabolized by skin proteins and releases active free-radical oxygen species that results in the alteration of bacterial proteins. This helps to treat acne or pimples. BENZONEXT GEL also acts as a keratolytic agent which promotes peeling of the skin and absorb excess oil from the skin further preventing acne formation and skin irritation.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Always apply BENZONEXT GEL as directed by your physician. It is for external use only. Apply a thin layer of this medicine on the affected area as instructed by the doctor.
Avoid contact with eyes, lips, mouth, nose, mucous membranes and sensitive areas of the neck. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending you’re your age, body weight and disease condition.
SIDE EFFECTS OF BENZONEXT GEL
COMMON
- Dry skin
- Skin redness
- Peeling of the skin

- Itching of the skin (pruritus)

- Allergic contact dermatitis
RARE
Stop applying BENZONEXT GEL and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- Allergic reactions, including application site hypersensitivity, face swelling and anaphylaxis
- Severe skin irritation, redness and peeling of the skin, swelling of the face
- Fainting
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Skin rash:
Avoid hot bath because hot water can irritate your skin further. Do not scratch the affected area. Use protective clothing when going outdoors. Regularly moisturize your skin and apply calamine lotion as a coolant. Consult your doctor if the symptoms persists for a long time.

PREGNANCY
BENZONEXT GEL is generally not recommended for use in pregnant women unless clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before using it.
BREASTFEEDING
BENZONEXT GEL should be used with caution in breast feeding mothers. Consult your doctor before using the medicine.
ALLERGY
Do not apply BENZONEXT GEL if you are allergic to Benzyl peroxide or to any other ingredients of this medicine.
OTHERS
BENZONEXT GEL is not recommended for use if you:
- Have damaged skin or broken skin
- Are using hard cleansers, scrubs, medicated soap or cosmetic products containing alcohol
Use in paediatrics:
Your doctor will decide the right dose depends on your child’s age, body weight and disease condition. Consult your doctor before using BENZONEXT GEL.
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before applying BENZONEXT GEL, inform your doctor if you are taking or using any of the following medicine:
- Medicines used to treat various skin diseases (Ex. dapsone)
- Topical hydroquinone (medicine used to remove dark patches of the skin)
- Isotretinoin, topical tretinoin (used to treat acne)
- Topical anaesthetics (used to relieve pain and itching) Ex. benzocaine, lignocaine
B. Drug-Food interactions:
Before applying BENZONEXT GEL inform your doctor if you are having any allergies to any other medicines, foods, preservatives or dyes.
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally applies more of BENZONEXT GEL or accidently ingested BENZONEXT GEL, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overuse of this medicine is severe skin irritation.
