WHAT IS CAPNEA?
Capnea Injection contains Caffeine which belongs to a group of medicines known as methylxanthines
WHAT CAPNEA IS USED FOR?
It is used in the treatment of interrupted breathing in premature babies (primary apnoea of premature newborns)
WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS:
TALK TO DOCTOR
Talk to your Doctor, if your baby:
Is allergic or hypersensitive to any of the other ingredients of this medicine
Has liver or kidney disease
Has any unusual heart rhythms detected or heart disease
Suffers from seizures
Has frequent regurgitation
Produces more urine than usual
Has reduced weight gain or food intake
PREGNANCY & BREAST FEEDING
If you are breast-feeding while your infant is treated with this medicine, you should not drink coffee or take any other high caffeine product as caffeine passes into breast milk
INTERACTIONS:
Tell your doctor if your child is taking,
Theophylline (used to treat asthma)
Cimetidine (used to treat gastric disease)
Drugs used to treat gastric acid secretion
Doxapram (used to treat breathing difficulties)
DIRECTIONS & FOR USE:
This medicine will be given by a doctor or nurse
It is administered into a venous infusion (drip)
IF YOU TAKE MORE CAPNEA:
In cases of very high overdose, fits can also occur. If signs of over-dosage are noticed, tell the doctor immediately or go to nearest hospital
SIDE EFFECTS OF CAPNEA:
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
SERIOUS
• Serious intestinal disease with bloody stools (necrotising enterocolitis)
• Convulsion
• Allergic reactions
• Bloodstream infection (sepsis)
COMMON
• Fast heartbeat (tachycardia)
• Increased sugar in blood or serum (hyperglycemia)
UNCOMMON
• Irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia)
STORAGE:
Keep this medicine out of reach of children
Store at a room temperature of 15-25°C
