INTRODUCTION:

Lantus 100IU contain insulin glargine which belongs to a group of medicine called long-acting insulins. It is a modified insulin, very similar to human insulin. It is used to treat diabetes mellitus in adults, adolescents and children aged 2 years and above. Diabetes mellitus is a disease where your body does not produce enough insulin to control the level of blood sugar. It has a long and steady blood-sugar-lowering action.

Do not stop taking this medicine without consulting your doctor. If you stop taking this medicine, your blood sugar levels may rise very high which may put you at risk of serious complications. It is only a part of the treatment program that should also include a healthy diet, regular exercise and weight reduction as advised by your doctor. Do not use this medicine when you have low blood sugar levels. Before starting the treatment, inform your doctor if you have ever had kidney, liver, or heart problems. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before taking this medicine. This medicine can be used in adolescents and children aged 2 years and above.

USES OF LANTUS:

Treat diabetes mellitus

HOW LANTUS WORKS:

It works like your body’s natural insulin. Insulin facilitate reuptake of sugar in muscle and fat cells and also suppress the production of sugar in the liver.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE:

LANTUS injected under the skin. Your doctor will decide the dose and frequency depending on your condition.

SIDE EFFECTS OF LANTUS:

SERIOUS

• Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
• Severe allergic reactions (including rash and itching all over the body)
• Severe swelling of skin or mucous membranes (angioedema)
• Shortness of breath, fall in blood pressure with rapid heartbeat and sweating

COMMON

• Skin and allergic reactions at the injection site (including reddening, unusually intense pain when injecting, itching, hives, swelling or inflammation)

RARE

• Eye reaction marked change (improvement or worsening) in your blood sugar control can disturb your vision temporarily. Proliferative retinopathy (an eye disease related to diabetes) severe hypoglycaemic attacks may cause temporary loss of vision
• General disorder in rare case, insulin treatment may also cause temporary build-up of water in the body, with swelling in the calves and ankles

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS:

Itching:

Take regular bath. Use creams, lotion, or gels. Avoid scratching. Reduce stress.

Swelling:

Apply an icepack or cold compress. Reduce your salt intake. Try to eat a balanced diet.

WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS:

PREGNANCY

LANTUS should be used with caution in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

BREASTFEEDING

LANTUS should be used with caution in breast feeding women. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

Do not drive or operate any machine while taking this medicine since it may cause hypoglycaemia, hyperglycaemia, and eyesight problems.

ALCOHOL

Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with LANTUS.

KIDNEY

LANTUS should be used with caution in patients suffering from active kidney diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

LIVER

LANTUS should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver function impairment or active liver diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

ALLERGY

Do not take LANTUS if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to insulin glargine or any other ingredients in this medicine.

HEART DISEASE

LANTUS should be used with caution in patients suffering from active heart diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

INTERACTIONS:

Talk to your doctor, if you are taking,

Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor (used to treat certain heart conditions or high blood pressure)
Fluoxetine, monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors (used to treat depression)
Pentoxifylline, propoxyphene, salicylate (used to relieve pain and lower fever)
Sulfonamide antibiotics (used to treat infection)
Corticosteroids (used to treat inflammation)
Danazol (medicine acting on ovulation)
Glucagon (used to treat severe hypoglycaemia)
Isoniazid (used to treat tuberculosis)
Lithium salts (used to treat psychiatric disorders)
Pentamidine (used to treat some infection caused by parasite)

They will hold them there for 4 weeks before they are returned to us.

We can deliver to PO Boxes and APO addresses as long as the delivery method. On your My Account page, simply set your Primary Shipping Address to your PO Box or APO address as required.

Customs

We are based off shore in India and your order is treated by your local Customs as imported goods. When your parcel passes through Customs there might be a delay while they process your order. We suggest that you always allow extra time and order ahead so you are not inconvenienced during this phase. The delay can be just a few days to 3 weeks in extreme cases before they contact you.
