INTRODUCTION:
MEGAHENZ 160MG contain megestrol which belongs to a group of medicine called progestogens. It is used to treat certain types of cancer known as hormone-dependent cancer (including breast cancer). Cancer is a disease in which abnormal cell divide uncontrollably and destroy body tissue. Hormone-dependent cancer is a type of cancer that is dependents on a hormone for growth and/or survival which include breast cancer, which is dependent on estrogens like estradiol.
Hormones are substances produced naturally in the body and they act as chemical messengers and help control the activity of cells and organs. Hormone therapies interfere with the way hormones are made or formed in the body. Many types of cancer depend on hormones to grow. MEGAHENZ 160MG may stop the cancer growing by changing this hormone balance in the body and slows down the growth of cancer. It can also act directly on cancer cell so that they cannot grow.
The most common side effects are increase in appetite, weight gain, hot flushes, high blood pressure, constipation, increased blood sugar levels. Before taking this medicine tell your doctor if you have ever had kidney disease, heart disease, liver problems. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before taking this medicine.

HOW MEGAHENZ 160MG WORKS:
MEGAHENZ 160MG may stop the cancer growing by changing the hormone balance in the body and slows down the growth of cancer. It can also act directly on cancer cell so that they cannot grow.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
Always take MEGAHENZ 160MG exactly as your doctor has told you. This medicine must be taken with or without food and try to take at the same time each day. It should be swallowed whole with water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.
SIDE EFFECTS OF MEGAHENZ 160MG:
SERIOUS
• Allergic reaction such as swelling of the face, lips, or tongue, skin rash, difficulty breathing
• Blood clot (signs include loss of co-ordination, slurred speech, pains in your groin, pains or numbness in your arm or leg (especially in calf of leg), shortness of breath, weakness, headache, and fainting)
COMMON
• Increase in appetite and weight gain (not associated with water retention)
• Shortness of breath
• Hot flushes
• Reddening of the face and neck
• High blood pressure
• Increased blood sugar levels
• Rounded face, sometimes called moon face
• Constipation
• Swelling of a vein due to a blood clot
• Blood clot in the lungs
• Temporary increase in the sign and symptom of your disease
• Changes in mood
• Numbness, pain or tingling in finger or thumb
• Heart attack
• Hair loss
• Diarrhoea, tiredness, feeling weak
• Impotence
• Passing wind
• Needing to urinate more often
• Nausea and vomiting
• Changes in vaginal bleeding (breakthrough bleeding, spotting)
• Build-up of fluid which causes swelling (mainly in the ankles)
• Pain
• Rash, including hives or nettle rash (urticaria)
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS:
Constipation:
Take fibre rich foods such as fresh fruit, vegetables and cereals and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly.
Diarrhoea:
Drink lot of fluid such as water or squash, to avoid dehydration. Do not take any other medicines without talking to a doctor.
Nausea and vomiting:
Try taking this medicine with, or just after, a meal or snack and stick to simple meals and do not eat rich or spicy food.

PREGNANCY
MEGAHENZ 160MG is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
BREASTFEEDING
MEGAHENZ 160MG is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
MEGAHENZ 160MG do not usually affect your ability to drive.
ALCOHOL
Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with MEGAHENZ 160MG.
KIDNEY
MEGAHENZ 160MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from active kidney diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
LIVER
MEGAHENZ 160MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver function impairment or active liver diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
ALLERGY
Do not take MEGAHENZ 160MG if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to megestrol or any other ingredients in this medicine.
OTHERS
Tell your doctor if you have:
Currently or have a history of suffering from blood clot (thrombophlebitis)
Have diabetes
Are over 65 years of age
