NICOSTAR 5mg contains Nicorandil which belongs to a group of medicines known as potassium-channel activators which works by increasing the blood flow through the blood vessels of the heart. NICOSTAR 5mg is used to prevent and treat long-term chest pain (angina). Angina is a type of chest pain often described as squeezing, pressure, heaviness, tightness or pain in your chest due to reduced blood flow to the heart. NICOSTAR 5mg used to treat angina and also reduces acute coronary events in high risk stable angina patients.
Before taking NICOSTAR 5mg, tell your doctor if you have low blood pressure or heart problems. Do not take any medicines for erectile dysfunction. NICOSTAR 5mg is not recommended for use in children and breastfeeding women. Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The dose you take will depend on your age, other medications you are taking and whether you have any kidney or liver problems. The common side effects are headache, dizziness, weakness and irregular heartbeat.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Dizziness:
Get up and move around to feel awake, take small naps to edge off the sleepiness. Give your eyes a break to avoid fatigue and eat a healthy food to boost energy.
Feeling sick (nausea) or indigestion:
Stick to simple normal meals and do not eat rich or spicy foods.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

ALCOHOL
Do not drink alcohol while taking NICOSTAR 5mg.
ALLERGY
Do not take if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Nicorandil or any ingredients of NICOSTAR 5mg.
HEART DISEASE
NICOSTAR 5mg is not recommended in patients with active heart diseases. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
OTHERS
Tell your doctor if you had or have a condition such as:
- Low blood pressure
- Pulmonary oedema
- Mouth ulcers
INTERACTIONS
Tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription or the following:
- Sildenafil, tadalafil or vardenafil (used for impotence)
- Hydralazine, minoxidil or nitroprusside (vasodilators)
- Medicines for high blood pressure, depression
- Prednisolone
