INTRODUCTION OF RANOLAZ OD
RANOLAZ OD TABLET contains Ranolazine which belongs to the group of medicines called Antianginal. It is used to treat chronic angina.
Angina pectoris can be defined as a sudden, sharp, and severe chest pain that originates from the apex of the heart and radiates to the left shoulder. It can be characterized by the presence of severe and crushing pain along with a feeling of pressure and suffocation, especially behind the breastbone.
RANOLAZ OD TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe kidney disease, moderate to severe liver disease. Contact You’re doctor before taking.
RANOLAZ OD TABLET should be used with caution in patients with mild to moderate kidney disease, mild liver disease, and moderate to severe heart failure, abnormal ECG changes like QT prolongation or long QT syndrome. Contact You’re doctor before taking.
RANOLAZ OD TABLET is generally not recommended for use in pregnant women unless considered clearly necessary. Contact You’re doctor before taking. RANOLAZ OD TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it is not known whether it may pass through the breast milk. Contact You’re doctor before taking it.
RANOLAZ OD TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Contact You’re doctor before taking.
RANOLAZ OD TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients aged 65 years or above. Contact You’re doctor before taking.
Avoid drinking grapefruit juice as it may lead to unwanted effects. The most common side effects of taking RANOLAZ OD TABLET are nausea, vomiting, constipation, dizziness headache and weakness. Contact You’re doctor if any of the above side effects worsen.

HOW RANOLAZ OD WORKS?
RANOLAZ OD TABLET works by inhibiting the entry of sodium and potassium into the heart cells, thereby preventing the calcium influx causing vasodilation and reduces ventricular tension, myocardial oxygen demand. Thus, relieving angina symptoms.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take RANOLAZ OD TABLET as advised by You’re physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. You’re physician will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon You’re age, body weight, and disease condition.

- Altered sensation

- Dark urine, blood in urine, difficulty in urination
- Difficulty in breathing

- Excessive sweating, itching
- Feeling swollen or bloated
- Hot flushes, low blood pressure
- Increase in creatinine
- Increase in urea in blood
- Increase in blood platelets count and white blood cells
- Changes in ECG heart tracing
- Joint swelling, pain in extremity
- Loss of appetite and/or weight loss
- Muscle cramp or weakness
- Ringing in the ears or spinning sensation
- Stomach pain, discomfort, indigestion
- Dry mouth
RARE EFFECTS OF RANOLAZ OD
- Paraesthesia in mouth and lips
- Rashes
- Problems with coordination
- Decrease in blood pressure upon standing
- Disorientation
- Coldness in hands and legs
- Hives, allergic skin reaction
- Impotence
- Inability to walk due to imbalance
- Inflammation of pancreas or intestine
- Loss of memory
- Throat tightness
- Low sodium levels in the blood (hyponatremia) causing tiredness, confusion, muscle twitching, cramps
Stop taking RANOLAZ OD TABLET and contact You’re doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- Symptoms of angioedema or allergic reaction such as hives, swelling of the face, tongue or throat causing difficulty in breathing or swallowing
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Headache:
Rest and relax. Drink plenty of fluids such as water and electrolytes. Apply a pain-relieving balm on the head if necessary. Do not consume alcohol. Contact You’re doctor if the symptom did not improve.
Nausea and Vomiting:
Take the medicine, with or just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy food.
Constipation:
Eat plenty of fiber rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables and cereals. Drink plenty of water and exercise more regularly.
Dizziness:
Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operate any machines while you are feeling dizzy. Do not consume alcohol, as it can aggravate You’re dizziness. Contact You’re doctor if the symptom did not improve.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizziness, lightheadedness, faintness, blurred vision, confusion, hallucination, double vision, and coordination problems after taking RANOLAZ OD TABLET.
KIDNEY
RANOLAZ OD TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe kidney disease and should be used with caution in mild to moderate kidney disease. Contact You’re doctor before taking RANOLAZ OD TABLET.
LIVER
RANOLAZ OD TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with moderate to severe liver disease and should be used with caution in mild liver disease. Contact You’re doctor before taking RANOLAZ OD TABLET.
ALLERGY
Do not take RANOLAZ OD TABLET if you are allergic to Ranolazine or to lactose or other sugars or to any other ingredients of this medicine.
HEART DISEASE
RANOLAZ OD TABLET should be used with caution in patients with moderate to severe heart failure, abnormal ECG changes like QT prolongation or long QT syndrome. Contact You’re doctor before taking RANOLAZ OD TABLET.
OTHERS
RANOLAZ OD TABLET is not recommended for use if you have:
- Rare hereditary problems like galactose intolerance, the Lapp lactase deficiency and glucose-galactose malabsorption
Use in pediatrics:
RANOLAZ OD TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Contact You’re doctor before taking RANOLAZ OD TABLET.
Use in geriatrics:
RANOLAZ OD TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients aged 65 years or above. Contact You’re doctor before taking RANOLAZ OD TABLET.
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug – Drug interactions:
Before taking RANOLAZ OD TABLET, inform You’re doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:
- Medicines used to treat bacterial infections (Ex. Clarithromycin, Telithromycin, Erythromycin)
- Medicines used to treat fungal infections (Ex. itraconazole, ketoconazole, fluconazole, voriconazole, posaconazole)
- Medicines used to treat HIV infection (atazanavir, nelfinavir, ritonavir, indinavir, saquinavir tenofovir disoproxil, and efavirenz)
- Nefazodone (used for depression)
- Medicines used to treat heart problems or heart rhythm disorders (Ex. quinidine, dofetilide, sotalol, metoprolol, diltiazem, verapamil, procainamide, disopyramide)
- Medicine used to prevent rejection of a transplanted organ (cyclosporine, tacrolimus, sirolimus, everolimus)
- Medicines used to treat epilepsy (Ex. phenytoin, carbamazepine or phenobarbital)
- Medicines used to treat tuberculosis (Ex. rifampin, rifabutin, rifapentine)
- St. John’s Wort (herbal medicine used for depression)
- Digoxin (medicines used for heart failure)
- Medicines used to treat allergies (Ex. terfenadine, astemizole, mizolastine)
- Medicines to treat psychoses (Ex. bupropion, imipramine, doxepin, amitriptyline, paroxetine)
- Medicines used to treat cancer (Ex. cyclophosphamide)
- Medicines to treat elevated cholesterol levels in the blood (Ex. simvastatin, lovastatin, atorvastatin)
- Cimetidine (medicine used for stomach ulcers)
- Metformin (medicines used to treat diabetes mellitus)
B. Drug – Food interaction:
Avoid drinking grapefruit juice with this medicine as it may lead to unwanted effects. Consult You’re doctor for advice.
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of RANOLAZ OD TABLET, consult You’re doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are dizziness, nausea, and vomiting.
