DIABEND MR 30 MG TABLET contains Gliclazide which belongs to the group of medicines called Antidiabetic agents. It is used in adults to treat Type II diabetes mellitus when diet, exercise and lifestyle changes alone does not result in adequate response.
Type II diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease associated with abnormally high levels of glucose in the blood. It is caused either due to inadequate production of a hormone called insulin (produced by pancreas to metabolize glucose) or due to inadequate sensitivity of body cells to the actions of insulin.
During therapy with DIABEND MR 30 MG TABLET, You’re doctor might ask you to make certain lifestyle changes such as following a healthy diet, regular physical exercise and quitting alcohol consumption.
Before taking DIABEND MR 30 MG TABLET, inform You’re doctor if you have any liver or kidney problems. You must also inform You’re doctor if you have any hormonal problems, genetic disorders (such as G6PD deficiency) or if you are malnourished, starved, on an irregular diet.
DIABEND MR 30 MG TABLET is not suitable for use in patients with type I diabetes mellitus. Consult You’re doctor before taking DIABEND MR 30 MG TABLET if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding.
One of the most common side effects of taking DIABEND MR 30 MG TABLET is hypoglycemia (low blood sugar levels) which can be identified through symptoms such as increased hunger, sweating, shakiness, weakness or an irregular heartbeat. To avoid this, You’re doctor will periodically monitor You’re blood sugar levels and adjust the dose of DIABEND MR 30 MG TABLET accordingly.
You can also carry a sugary snack (such as biscuits, glucose drinks or sweet candies) along with you as a precaution and have them immediately if you experience any signs of hypoglycemia. However, consult You’re doctor if there is no improvement in You’re condition. Other common side effects of taking DIABEND MR 30 MG TABLET are headache, dizziness and constipation.

HOW DIABEND MR 30 MG WORKS?
DIABEND MR 30 MG TABLET effectively controls blood sugar levels, where gliclazide makes the pancreas secrete more insulin to digest the circulating sugars (glucose) in the blood. It also makes the body more sensitive to insulin which helps in utilizing the circulating blood glucose (sugars) leading to decrease in blood glucose levels.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take DIABEND MR 30 MG TABLET before meals or as advised by You’re physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.
You’re doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon You’re age, body weight and disease condition. Continue to take DIABEND MR 30 MG TABLET for the duration recommended by You’re doctor to achieve better control over blood sugar levels.

RARE EFFECTS OF DIABEND MR 30 MG
- Low RBC and platelet count (causing pale skin, tiredness, headache, prolonged bleeding or bruising, shortness of breath or dizziness)
- Skin rash and itching
- Changes in vision
Stop taking DIABEND MR 30 MG TABLET and contact You’re doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- Severe allergic reaction (such as skin rash, swelling of the face, eyelids, lips, tongue or throat which causes difficulty in breathing or swallowing)
- Severe skin reactions (such as DRESS characterized by fever or flu-like symptoms along with skin rashes with widespread blistering or peeling of skin)
- Signs of liver problems (such as fever, yellowing of skin and whites of the eyes, weakness, fatigue, weight loss and loss of appetite)
- Signs of severe decrease in blood sugar level (such as confusion, headache, excessive sweating, clammy skin, trembling, weakness, double vision, excessive hunger, nausea, vomiting, problems in sleeping, feeling agitated, unable to concentrate, drowsiness, loss of consciousness, slowed reactions, depression, trouble seeing or speaking, paralysis, numbness, dizziness, hallucinations, difficulty in breathing, slowed or faster heartbeat with chest pain)
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Headache:
Rest and relax. Keep You’re self hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Applying a pain-relieving balm on You’re forehead can be beneficial. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate You’re headache. Consult You’re doctor if You’re headache worsens.
Dizziness:
Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any tools or machines completely while you are feeling dizzy. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate You’re dizziness. Consult You’re doctor if You’re dizziness worsens.
Diarrhea:
Hydrate You’re self by drinking plenty of fluids, such as water or fruit juices. Consuming ORS can also be beneficial. Do not self-treat diarrhea on You’re own. Consult You’re doctor if You’re diarrhea becomes uncontrollable.
Constipation:
Eat plenty of fiber rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables and cereals. Drink plenty of fluids. Exercise more regularly. Consult You’re doctor if this side effect bothers you.
Low blood sugar:
Have foods rich in sugars such as fruit juices, glucose drinks, candies, honey or biscuits. Check You’re blood sugar after 10 minutes. If not gained optimum level, take another sugary snack or a drink and check the blood sugar again. Consult You’re doctor if there is no improvement in You’re condition.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
DIABEND MR 30 MG TABLET is generally not recommended for use in pregnant women. Therefore, consult You’re doctor before taking it.
BREASTFEEDING
DIABEND MR 30 MG TABLET is generally not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Therefore, consult You’re doctor before taking it.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizzy or experience blurred vision after taking DIABEND MR 30 MG TABLET.
ALCOHOL
Avoid alcohol consumption while taking DIABEND MR 30 MG TABLET as it could aggravate You’re existing condition.
KIDNEY
DIABEND MR 30 MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe kidney disease. It should be used with caution in patients with decreased kidney functions. Therefore, consult You’re doctor before taking it.
LIVER
DIABEND MR 30 MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe liver disease. It should be used with caution in patients with decreased liver functions. Therefore, consult You’re doctor before taking it.
ALLERGY
Do not take DIABEND MR 30 MG TABLET if you are allergic to Gliclazide or to any other medicines that belongs to sulphonylureas (such as glibenclamide, glipizide).
OTHERS
DIABEND MR 30 MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you have:
- Type I diabetes (or insulin-dependent diabetes)
- Diabetic ketoacidosis (increased levels of sugar and ketone bodies in the blood)
- Diabetic coma or pre-coma
- Serious traumatic injury
- G6PD deficiency (an inherited blood disorder)
- Porphyria (an inherited blood disorder)
Before taking DIABEND MR 30 MG TABLET inform You’re doctor if you:
- Are malnourished, starved, on an irregular diet or feeling weak
- Perform extreme physical exercises
- Have hormonal problems (Ex. disorders of pituitary gland, adrenal cortex or thyroid gland)
Use in pediatrics:
DIABEND MR 30 MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years). Therefore, consult You’re doctor before administration.
Use in geriatrics:
DIABEND MR 30 MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients especially in those who take medicines such as CNS depressants or beta-blockers. Therefore, consult You’re doctor before taking it.
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug-Drug interactions :
Before taking DIABEND MR 30 MG TABLET, inform You’re doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines such as:
- Other antidiabetic medications such as metformin, insulin, glipizide, glibenclamide, dapaglifozin, teneligliptin etc.
- Antifungal medicines (used to treat fungal infections) such as miconazole or fluconazole
- St. John’s Wort (a herbal preparation used to treat depression)
- Antibiotics (used to treat bacterial infections) such as fluoroquinolones(Ex. ciprofloxacin, moxifloxacin), clarithromycin, co-trimoxazole, rifampicin, chlormaphenicol, tetracyclines or sulphonamides (Ex. sulphasalazine)
- Medicines used to treat high blood pressure or heart failure such as beta blockers (Ex. atenolo, propranolol), ACE-inhibitors (Ex. captopril or enalapril)
- Medicines used to treat stomach ulcers such as ranitidine, famotidine
- Medicines used to treat depression (such as moclobemide, isocarboxazid, phenelzine and tranylcypromine)
- Medicines used for pain relief (Ex. aspirin, phenylbutazone, ibuprofen, phenylbutazone, azapropazone)
- Medicines containing alcohol such as cough preparations
- Medicines to treat mental illness (such as chlorpromazine, prochlorperazine, lithium)
- Corticosteroids (used to treat pain and inflammation) Ex. prednisolone, cotisone, betamethasone
- Medicines used to treat asthma (Ex. salbutamol, terbutaline)
- Ritodrine (a medicine used to stop pre-mature labour)
- Danazol (a medicine used to treat breast disorders, heavy menstrual bleeding and endometriosis)
- Medicines used for blood thinning (Ex. warfarin).
- Diuretics (used to increase urine ouptut and to reduce edema) such as bendroflumethiazide, hydrochlorothiazide, furosemide
- Oral contraceptives (birth control pills) Ex. drospirenone, ethinylestradiol
- Sulfinpyrazone (a medicine used to treat gout)
- Aminoglutethimide (a medicine used to treat breast cancer or prostate cancer)
- Thyroid hormones such as thyroxine (used to treat thyroid deficiency)
- Octreotide (a medicine used to treat bleeding in the gut)
- Testosterone (a hormonal medicine used to treat delayed puberty in men)
- Cimetidine (a medicine used to treat stomach ulcers)
- Clofibrate (a medicine used to treat high blood cholesterol levels)
- Disopyramide (a medicine used for irregular heartbeats)
- Laxatives (used to treat constipation) Ex. lactulose, ispagula
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally took more of DIABEND MR 30 MG TABLET, consult You’re doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose might include signs of low blood glucose levels such as weakness, sweating, trembling, fast heartbeat, confusion and double vision.
