WHAT IS MIRENA?
MIRENA contains Levonorgestrel
WHAT MIRENA IS USED FOR?
MIRENA is indicated for,
Intrauterine contraception for up to 5 years
The treatment of heavy menstrual bleeding in women who choose to use intrauterine contraception as their method of contraception
WARNING & PRECAUTION:
TALK TO DOCTOR
Talk to your Doctor, if you:
Are allergic or hypersensitive to Levonorgestrel or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
Have had a serious pelvic infection called pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) unless you have had a normal pregnancy after the infection went away
Have had a serious pelvic infection in the past 3 months after a pregnancy
Have or suspect you might have cancer of the uterus or cervix
Have bleeding from the vagina
Have liver or kidney or heart disease
Have breast cancer or any other cancer that is sensitive to progestin (a female hormone), now or in the past
Have an intrauterine device in your uterus
Have a condition of the uterus that changes the shape of the uterine cavity, such as large fibroid tumors
Have Postpartum endometritis or infected abortion in the past 3 months
Suspected uterine or cervical neoplasia
PREGNANCY & BREAST FEEDING
If you are pregnant or breast feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
CHILDREN & ADOLESCENTS
It is not recommended to children and adolescents under the age of 18 years
INTERACTIONS:
Tell your doctor if you are taking,
Barbiturates, phenytoin, carbamazepine, felbamate, oxcarbazepine, topiramate (used to treat epilepsy)
Bosentan (used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension)
Efavirenz, nevirapine (used to treat HIV)
Griseofulvin, itraconazole, ketoconazole (used to treat fungal infection)
Rifampin (used to treat tuberculosis)
DIRECTIONS & FOR USE:
MIRENA is placed by your doctor or nurse
SIDE EFFECTS OF MIRENA:
SERIOUS
• Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID): infertility, ectopic pregnancy or pelvic pain, hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) long-lasting or heavy bleeding, unusual vaginal discharge, low abdominal (stomach area) pain, painful sex, chills
• Life-threatening infection: severe pain or fever
• Perforation: internal scarring, infection, or damage to other organs
COMMON
• Pain, bleeding or dizziness
• Expulsion
• Missed menstrual periods
• Changes in bleeding: spotting, bleeding is heavier or lighter, irregular periods
• Cysts on the ovary: pain
STORAGE:
Keep this medicine out of reach of children
Store at a room temperature of 15-25°C
