INTRODUCTION OF TONOFERON SF CAPSULE
TONOFERON SF CAPSULE contains a combination of Ferrous succinate, Folic acid, and Succinic acid that belongs to the group of medicines called Iron salts, Vitamins, and Dicarboxylic acids derivatives respectively. It is used to treat or prevent nutritional anaemia due to iron or folate deficiency.
It is also used to treat or prevent iron deficiency states or depleted bone marrow iron (ferritin) stores during increased physical growth & physiological demand such as pregnancy, childhood, & adolescence, heavy/chronic blood loss after surgery, bleeding piles, and gynaecological disorders (from menarche to menopause).
It is also used while recovering from chronic illnesses (such as TB, malaria, kidney diseases, & liver diseases) or in old age. Anaemia is a condition in which the red blood cell count decreases abnormally due to deficiency of iron or folic acid or due to excessive blood loss conditions.
TONOFERON SF CAPSULE is not recommended for use in deficiency of vitamin B12, possibly caused by pernicious anaemia or if you have a vegetarian diet. Before using TONOFERON SF CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you are under therapy for a folate-dependent tumour, have a family history of neural tube defects (NTDs), are obese, or have diabetes.
TONOFERON SF CAPSULE should be used with caution in pregnant and breastfeeding women. The most common side effects associated with the use of TONOFERON SF CAPSULE are nausea/vomiting, constipation, diarrhoea, stomach upset. Consult your doctor if any of the symptoms worsens.

HOW TONOFERON SF CAPSULE WORKS?
TONOFERON SF CAPSULE helps in replenishing blood in the body where Ferrous succinate and succinic acid work by directly increasing the iron stores in the body, thereby enhancing the synthesis of haemoglobin and myoglobin (oxygen carrying pigment in muscles). Folic acid acts as a vital co-factor in the synthesis of the “heme” (iron) part of haemoglobin.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take TONOFERON SF CAPSULE as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

RARE EFFECTS OF TONOFERON SF CAPSULE
Stop taking TONOFERON SF CAPSULE and contact your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects:
- Signs of allergic reactions such as skin rash, flaking skin, boils, or sore lips and mouth
- Signs of serious allergic reactions such as sudden noisy breathing, fluttering or tightness of the chest or collapse
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Constipation
Try to eat more high-fibre foods such as fresh fruit, vegetables, cereals, and drink plenty of water. Try doing exercise regularly (going for a daily walk or run). If this does not help, inform your doctor for receiving alternate treatments for constipation.
Diarrhea
Drink lots of fluids, such as water to keep yourself hydrated. Try to avoid taking any medicine on your own to treat diarrhoea and consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.
Nausea And Vomiting
Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. Consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.

BREAST FEEDING

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
USE WITH CAUTION
TONOFERON SF CAPSULE has a negligible effect on your ability to drive or use machines.
ALLERGY
CONTRAINDICATED
TONOFERON SF CAPSULE is not recommended for use if you are allergic to Ferrous Succinate, Folic acid, Succinic Acid or any other ingredients of this medicine. Consult your doctor before taking.
OTHERS
TONOFERON SF CAPSULE is not recommended for use if you:
- Have a deficiency of vitamin B12 due to pernicious anaemia
- Are in a vegetarian diet
Before taking TONOFERON SF CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you:

INTERACTIONS
A. Drug-Drug Interactions:
Before taking TONOFERON SF CAPSULE, inform your doctor, if you are taking any of the following medicine:
- Anti-epileptics (medicines used to treat epilepsy and fits) Ex. phenytoin, phenobarbital, primidone
- Antibacterials (medicines used to treat infections) Ex. chloramphenicol, co-trimoxazole
- Sulfasalazine (medicines used to treat arthritis or inflammatory bowel disease, including ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease)
- Methotrexate (medicines used to treat severe active rheumatoid arthritis, severe psoriasis, and certain types of cancer)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of TONOFERON SF CAPSULE, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. However, intake of folic acid in large doses is unlikely to cause harm.
