INTRODUCTION OF LARENTINE 5MG
LARENTINE 5MG contain memantine which belongs to a group of medicine called NMDA receptor antagonists. It is used for the treatment of patients with moderate to severe Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive disease that destroy memory and mental functions. Memory loss in Alzheimer’s disease is due to disturbance of message signals in the brain. The brain contains N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA)-receptor that are involved in transmitting nerve signals important in learning and memory. This medicine acts on these NMDA-receptors improving the transmission of nerve signals and the memory.
Glutamate is a chemical that helps to send messages between nerve cells in the brain. In Alzheimer’s disease nerve cells are damaged resulting in the production of too much of glutamate. This causes more damage to the nerve cells. Memantine protects nerve cells by blocking the effects of excess glutamate without disturbing the normal transmission of nerve signals.
The common side effects are headache, sleepiness, constipation, elevated liver function tests, dizziness, balance disorders, shortness of breath, high blood pressure, hypersensitivity. This medicine is strictly not recommended for use in children and adolescents under 18 years.
