INTRODUCTION:
IDROFOS contains Ibandronic acid which belongs to a group of medicines called bisphosphonates. It is used to treat and prevent osteoporosis in women after menopause. It helps to increase bone mass and reduce the chance of having a spinal fracture. Postmenopausal osteoporosis develops after menopause, when estrogen levels drop precipitously. These changes lead to bone loss, usually in the trabecular (spongy) bone inside the hard cortical bone. Thinning and weakening of the bones is common in women after the menopause.
IDROFOS reduces the amount of calcium leaving the bone and make the bone stronger by binding to the bone. It slows down the rate of bone loss and increases the bone density, thus reducing the risk of broken bones and fractures. Always take this medicine as directed your Doctor. Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you have kidney problems or low calcium levels. It is not for children and adolescents below 18 years of age. The common side effects are diarrhoea, headache, stomach or back pain.
