INTRODUCTION
SINGULAIR 5MG contain montelukast which belongs to a group of medicine called leukotriene receptor antagonists (LTRAs). It may help to improve symptoms of asthma and allergic rhinitis. Asthma is a condition where the airway of the lungs gets narrowed, swell and may produce extra mucus. This can cause breathing difficulty, coughing and wheezing while you breathe and shortness of breath. Allergic rhinitis is an allergic response causing itchy, watery eyes, sneezing and other similar symptoms.
It is used to prevent asthma attacks and for the long-term treatment of asthma in adults and children ages 12 months and older, exercise-induced asthma in people 6 years of age and older and helps to control the symptom of allergic rhinitis (Both seasonal and perennial) such as sneezing, stuffy and runny nose.
Always take SINGULAIR 5MG exactly as your doctor has told you. This medicine must be taken with or without food. Before taking this medicine tell your doctor if you have ever had kidney disease, heart disease, liver problems. Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with this medicine. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before taking this medicine.
USES OF SINGULAIR 5MG
- Prevent asthma attack and for the long-term treatment of asthma in adult and children ages 12 months and older
- Prevent exercise-induced asthma in people 6 year of age and older
- Helps to control the symptom of allergic rhinitis (Both seasonal and perennial)
HOW SINGULAIR 5MG WORKS
It works by blocking the action of leukotriene D4 in the lungs. Leukotriene receptors narrow the airways of the lungs. By blocking these receptors montelukast decreases inflammation and relax the smooth muscle thus preventing asthma and relieves symptoms of allergies.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Always take SINGULAIR 5MG exactly as your doctor has told you. This medicine must be taken with or without food. Try to take this medicine at the same time each day.
SIDE EFFECTS OF SINGULAIR 5MG
SERIOUS
- Behavior and mood-related changes
- Increase in certain white blood cells and possible inflamed blood vessels throughout the body
COMMON
- Upper respiratory infection
- Fever
- Headache
- Sore throat, cough
- Stomach pain
- Diarrhoea
- Earache or ear infection
- Flu, runny nose
- Sinus infection
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Headache:
Apply hot or cold-water bag on your head. Take rest in a quiet and dark room. Drink tea or coffee.
Stomach pain:
Try to rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly and smaller and frequent meals. Applying a heat pad or covered hot water bottle on your stomach may also help. If still pain persists, speak to your doctor.
Diarrhoea:
Drink lot of fluid such as water or squash, to avoid dehydration. Do not take any other medicines without speaking to a doctor.
Fever:
Drink plenty of fluids and water. Avoid taking cold bath or showers.
Cough:
Drink fluids which helps thin the mucus in your throat. Suck on cough drops or hard candies.

BREASTFEEDING
SINGULAIR 5MG should be used with caution in breast feeding women. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
ALCOHOL
Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with SINGULAIR 5MG.
KIDNEY
SINGULAIR 5MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from active kidney diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
LIVER
SINGULAIR 5MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver function impairment or active liver diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
ALLERGY
Do not take SINGULAIR 5MG if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to montelukast or any other ingredients in this medicine.
LUNGS
SINGULAIR 5MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from active lung diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
OTHERS
Tell your doctor, if you:
