ABOUT THE DRUG:

Divalproex Sodium is sold under several trade names such as Dicorate ER (made by Sun Pharma). It is an anti convulsant medication that affects certain body chemicals that can cause seizures. It is prescribed for the treatment of various types of seizure disorders. Divalproex Sodium is often used in combination with other anti convulsant or anti seizure medications.

USES OF THE DRUG:

Dicorate ER 1gm is an effective medication in the treatment and control of seizures in patients with epilepsy. It is also used to treat bipolar disorder and neuropathic pain. Dicorate ER 1gm also effective in epilepsy and generalized-clonic and partial seizures.
Divalproex Sodium may also be used for treatment not mentioned here.

WORKING OF THE DRUG:

The drug contains Divalproex Sodium as an active ingredient which blocks the voltage dependent sodium and calcium channels and increases the concentration of neurotransmitters. HOW MUCH TO TAKE THE DRUG?

The ER or Extended release tablets are for once a day oral administration and take Divalproex Sodium strictly according to your doctor’s direction or according to the instructions on the medication label. Do not alter the dosage unless your doctor advises you to do so. Your doctor may occasionally change the dosage over several weeks or months to ensure proper treatment. Follow your doctor’s directions properly. Also, do not take this medication after the prescribed period is over.

Avoid crushing, breaking, or chewing a Divalproex extended release (ER) tablet as doing so may lead to too much of the medicine to be release at once. Instead swallow it whole. You must ensure to drink plenty of fluids while taking this medication. Always store Divalproex Sodium anti convulsant medication in a cool and dry place. Do not alter the dosage unless your doctor advises you to do so. Your doctor may occasionally change the dosage over several weeks or months to ensure proper treatment. FOR HOW LONG TO TAKE IT?

Avoid stopping Divalproex Sodium medication suddenly without the advice of your doctor, even if you feel alright. Your condition may become worse with increased seizures if you stop this medication suddenly.

OVERDOSE:

If overdose, talk to doctor or Poisons information center for advice. Take medical help as soon as possible. Overdose may lead to blurred vision, co-ordination problems, increased seizures, light headedness, or fainting.

MISS DOSE:

If you miss a dose of Divalproex Sodium, take it as soon as you remember. Do not take the missed dose if the time to take the next dose is almost up. Taking multiple doses near to each other can lead to excess medication in your body which can be dangerous.

SIDE EFFECTS OF DICORATE ER 1GM:

SERIOUS

• Red or purple spots on your skin, bruising, bleeding from your mouth, teeth or nose (low blood count)|
• Feeling tired and changes in mental status
• Low body temperature (hypothermia)
• Fever, skin rash, hives, sores in your mouth, blistering and peeling of your skin, swelling of your lymph nodes, swelling of your face, eyes, lips, tongue, or throat, trouble swallowing or breathing.
• Drowsiness or sleepiness (elderly)

COMMON

• Nausea, vomiting
• Headache
• Weakness
• Tremor
• Stomach pain
• Blurry vision and double vision
• Diarrhea
• Increased appetite, loss of appetite
• Weight gain
• Hair loss
• Problems with walking or coordination

COMMON DRUG INTERACTIONS:

Some sleep inducing medications like cold or cough medicines, narcotic pain killers, sleeping pills, anti depressants or muscle relaxers can add to the sleepiness caused due to Divalproex Sodium. Let your doctor know in advance if you use any of these medicines. Also inform your doctor if you use any of these potentially interacting (with Divalproex Sodium) medications: Topiramate, a blood thinner such as warfarin, tolbutamide, aspirin or acetaminophen, clozapine, diazepam, ethosuximide, meropenem, or rifampin.

THINGS TO REMEMBER:

Divalproex Sodium usage may lead to suicidal thoughts. You must notify your doctor about any new or deteriorating symptoms like mood or behavior changes, depression, anxiety, suicidal or self hurting thoughts, increased agitation, hostility, restlessness, hyperactivity (mentally or physically).
Also avoid alcohol consumption as alcohol increases the risk of side effects of Divalproex Sodium. Grapefruit and its products are also not recommended.

Order confirmation
